This is my garden this year.
When it was time for planting in the spring, the world turned upside down. I locked my life down pretty quickly in response to the coronavirus pandemic, and the one store I was shopping at every 2 weeks didn’t carry seeds. So I planted whatever I could find. Old seeds from the shed that may or may not germinate. Tomato seeds straight from tomatoes. The guts from a few rotting pumpkins. Several handfuls of bird seed. Carrot tops and lettuce root balls from my produce boxes.
This is what came up.
The sunflowers look especially promising. That was the bird seed. The kale from old seeds was doing really well until the green caterpillars found it, and now most of it has been gnawed down to the ribs. I think I might actually get a few tomatoes, although the one tomato plant I picked up on a whim at the grocery store is doing better than the seedlings I planted directly. I’ve got a few green beans in there, too, hidden under the leaves. The mystery winter squash are doing pretty well, but I know from past experience that they will take over my whole yard if I’m not careful.
This is my garden this year. Out of order. Out of control. Full of surprises both good and bad.
This is my garden this year.
This is my life this year.
